[1] The name of 2 nd Sura Al-Baqarah,” (The Cow) is given after the story of the cow mentioned in verses 2:67–73. Tafseer of Abu Muhammad Al-Hassan Al-Askari -asws (11 th Imam): ‘When the Jews debated Ali -asws regarding the Prophet-hood, he -asws called out at the camels of the Jews: ‘O you camels! Testify for Muhammad -saww and his -saww successor -asws !’ Their camels and their clothes, all of them spoke, ‘You -asws speak the truth, O Ali -asws !

Muhammad -saww is a Rasool -saww of Allah -azwj and you -asws , O Ali -asws , are truly his -saww successor -asws !’ Some of them believed and the others separated, so it was Revealed: Alif Lam Meem [2:1] That is the Book. There is no doubt in it is Guidance for the pious [2:2] – the Book is (a reference to) Amir Al-Momineen -asws , and the pious (is a reference to) his -asws Shias’’. [2] Alif Lam Meem [2:1] That is the Book.

There is no doubt in it (and it) is Guidance for the pious [2:2] – The Imam (Hassan Al-Askari -asws ) said: ‘The Quraysh and the Jews belied the Quran and they said, ‘It is clear magic you -saww are saying it’. So Allah -azwj Mighty and Majestic Said: Alif Lam Meem [2:1] That is the Book. [2:2] – i.e., O Muhammad -saww !

This Book which is Revealed unto you -saww , it is of the abbreviated letters, from which are: – Alif, Lam, Meem , and it is in your language and letters of your Alphabet, so come with the like of it if you are truthful, and seek assistance upon that with the rest of your witnesses.
