Prior to Islam, examples of Prophets -as who migrated are, Ibrahim -as , Lut -as , Jonah -as , Jacob ‑as , and Moses -as .
The story of Prophet Ibrahim -as ’s migration along with his -as wife -as touches upon several important aspects of migration, i.e., travel through a land of kufr, an unbeliever king’s inappropriate behaviour, the patience observed by Prophet Ibrahim -as and the Arrival of Allah -azwj ’s Help which resolved the difficult situation, thereby converting the king to embrace faith, as is included in the Appendix.

The Migration in the Quran and Ahadith:
Allah -azwj Says:
Those whom the Angels cause to die while they are being unjust to themselves, they are saying, ‘In which state were you?’ They are saying, ‘We were weak in the earth’.
They are saying, ‘Did not the earth of Allah happen to be capacious, so you could have emigrated therein ?’ So, their abode is Hell, and it is an evil fate [4:97]
The followers of Ahl Al-Bayt -asws had to flee from hostile Muslim governments in the Middle East to neighbouring regions, from Iran to the Indian subcontinent.
For the latter case the Hindu and Sikhs were the rulers of these places and most of the population were from the idol worshipers, but after observing the charismatic characters of some of the Muslims immigrants, a sizeable proportion of them converted to Islam.
Today, many of the believers travel for education, health treatment and economic reasons, a large fraction of them return to their native countries while some of them permanently settle in the foreign lands.

These days, immigration has become a sensitive topic of politics as some nations are overwhelmed with immigrants and immigration is debated on regular basis. Any further discussion here would be out of the scope of the short article.
