[1] In Chapter 71, Allah -azwj narrates the story of the people of Prophet Nuh, who persistently disbelieved and Allah -azwj Commended Nuh-as to warn his people but they mocked him, see Appendix for more details.\u00a0 Finally the Punishment of Allah -azwj Descended upon \u2013 the great Flood in which only those survived who remain with Prophet Nuh -as in his -as ship.

Abu Ja`far -asws (5 th Imam) says, regarding Allah -azwj \u2019s saying, \u201cYou do not expect any reverence for God (71:13) ,\u201d Imam -asws said, \u201cYou do not fear any greatness for God.\u201d [2] \n His -azwj Words: And they said, \u2018Neither abandon your gods, nor abandon Wadd, nor Suwa\u2019a, nor Yagous and Yaouq and Nasra\u2019 [71:23] \u2013 He -asws said: \u2018There was a group of believers before Noah -as . They died, so the people grieved upon them.

Then Iblees -la came and took their images for them to be cordial with these. When the winter came, they brought these into the houses. \u00a0\u00a0 \n That generation passed away, and another generation came, so Iblees -la came and said to them, \u2018They are your gods. Your fathers were worshipping these, therefore you should worship these\u2019. And a lot of people from them strayed, so Noah -as supplicated against them, and Allah -azwj Destroyed them\u2019\u2019.

[3] \n \u2018Neither abandon your gods, nor abandon Wadd, nor Suwa\u2019a, nor Yagous and Yaouq and Nasra\u2019 [71:23] . He -asws said: \u2018Wadd was an idol of the dog, and Suwa\u2019a was for (clan of) Hazeyl, and Yagous was for (clan of) Murad, and Yaouq was for (clan of) Hamdan, and Nasr was for (clan of) Haseyn\u2019\u2019.
