Birth and Lineage Abu Talib was born in the city of Mecca into the esteemed Banu Hashim clan of the Quraysh tribe. His actual name is ‘Abd Manaf but he was better known by his teknonym, Abu Talib [1] . His father was Abdul Muttalib , the respected patriarch of Mecca and the preacher of Prophet Ibrahim’s (a.s) monotheism. His mother was Fatima, daughter of Amr ibn A’idh al-Makhzumi [2] who was also the mother of Abd Allah, the father of the Prophet [3] (PBUH).
