They ascribed to Yazid the virtues of the good, the talents of the genius, huge attributes, and noble qualities, while he was distinguished by qualities contrary to that. They told the people that they had talked for their interests and their happiness, while they, Allah knows, had come to know that they intended to perish and destroy them and to put an end to their laws and their sacred beliefs.
When these people had finished their speech, Mu’awiya turned to the Iraqi delegation, that he might hear its viewpoint. The personality of the delegation was al-Ahnaf bin Qays,
