Fana is a phenomenon that is within duality. Man talks in a discriminating capacity about something that is connected with oneness. In oneness there is no discrimination. In the garden, Sayyidna Adam, `alayhi-s-salam, did not know the meaning of a lie so he did not discern who shaytan (satan) was. He had not experienced lies because he was the first of human creation. When shaytan spoke to him he believed that what he heard was the truth.
