His daytime was spent in investigation, researching and reading, setting out, after performing maghrib (evening) prayers in congregation, to inspecting his vintage orchard on the outskirts of the town. Ibn al-`Awdi was so infatuated with al-Shahid’s character, that he was used to keep his company wherever he travelled or resided, till the last days of his life.
