In a world inhabited by a plurality of substances, real and possible, which are not absolutely identical or chaotically different , human action weaves the web of similarities . The ‘mechanism’ that produces similarities is called metaphor; as Umberto Eco would say: the ‘Aristotelian machine of the metaphor’, which, of course, is not a machine but a person.
