Shiavault - a Vault of Shia Islamic Books Ghurar Al-Hikam Wa Durar Al-Kalim, Exalted Aphorisms And Pearls Of Speech Arrogance Arrogance-اَلْكِبْر Arrogance is an inviter towards plunging into sins. 1ـ اَلكِبْرُ داع إلَى التَّقَحُّمِ فِي الذُّنُوبِ. Arrogance is a destructive trait, one who seeks to increase by it, diminishes. 2ـ اَلْكِبْرُ خَلِيقَةٌ مُرْدِيَةٌ، مَنْ تَكَثَّرَ بِها قَلَّ. Arrogance grips the hearts just like a fatal poison.

3ـ اَلْكِبْرُ يُساوِرُ القُلُوبَ مُساوَرَةَ السُّمُومِ القاتِلَةِ. Suppress the manifestations of pride and restrain the flashes (or risings) of arrogance. 4ـ اِقْمَعُوا نَواجِمَ الفَخْرِ، واقْدِعُوا لَوامِعَ (طَوالِعَ) الكِبْرِ. Beware of arrogance, for it is the cornerstone of tyranny and disobedience to the Most Merciful. 5ـ اِحْذَرِ الكِبْرَ فَإنَّهُ رَأْسُ الطُغْيانِ، ومَعْصيَةُ الرَّحْمنِ.

Beware of arrogance, for indeed it is the greatest of sins and the vilest of faults, and it is the ornament of the Devil. 6ـ إيّاكَ والكِبْرَ، فَإنَّهُ أعْظَمُ الذُّنُوبِ، وألأمُ العُيُوبِ، وهُوَ حِلْيَةُ إبْلِيسَ. Beware of behaving haughtily with the servants of Allah, for every haughty one is crushed by Allah. 7ـ إيّاكَ والتَّجَبُّرَ عَلى عِبادِ اللّهِ، فَإنَّ كُلَّ مُتَجَبِّر يَقْصِمُهُ اللّهُ. The ugliest character is arrogance. 8ـ أقْبَحُ الخُلْقِ التَّكَبُّرُ.

The lowliest of all people is one who considers himself to be great. 9ـ أكْثَرُ النّاسِ ضَعَةً مَنْ تَعاظَمَ في نَفْسهِ. Arrogance humiliates. 10ـ اَلتَّكَبُّرُ يَضَعُ. Arrogance degrades the elevated. 11ـ اَلتَّكَبُّرُ يَضَعُ الرَّفيعَ. Arrogance shows [one’s] depravity. 12ـ اَلتَّكَبُّرُ يُظْهِرُ الرَّذيلَةَ. Arrogance is the worst of faults. 13ـ اَلْكِبْرُ شَرُّ العُيُوبِ. Arrogance is the same as foolishness. 14ـ اَلتَّكَبُّرُ عَيْنُ الحِماقَةِ.

Seeking honour [for oneself] through arrogance is [a cause of] humiliation. 15ـ اَلتَّعَزُّزُ بِالتَّكَبُّرِ ذُلٌّ. Being arrogant about [one’s status in] this world is deficiency. 16ـ اَلتَّكَبُّرُ بِالدُّنْيا قُلٌّ. Arrogance is the basis of ruin. 17ـ اَلتَّكَبُّرُ أُسُّ التَّلَفِ. Arrogance is the great trap of the Devil. 18ـ اَلكِبْرُ مَصيدَةُ إبْليسَ العُظْمى. Verily, if you become arrogant, Allah will abase you. 19ـ إنَّكَ إنْ تَكَبَّرْتَ وَضَعَكَ اللّهُ. The bane of nobility is arrogance.

20ـ آفَةُ الشَّرَفِ الكِبْرُ. Due to arrogance there is loathing. 21ـ بِالتَّكَبُّرِ يَكُونُ المَقْتُ. Through increased arrogance, loss [and ruin] comes about. 22ـ بِكَثْرَةِ التَّكَبُّرِ يَكُونُ التَّلَفُ.
