Shiavault - a Vault of Shia Islamic Books Ghurar Al-Hikam Wa Durar Al-Kalim, Exalted Aphorisms And Pearls Of Speech Leniency And Gentleness Leniency And Gentleness الرِّفق واللين Leniency is the key to rightness and the trait of the people of understanding. 1ـ اَلرِّفْقُ مِفْتاحُ الصَّوابِ، وشيمَةُ ذَوي الألباب. Leniency makes difficulties bearable and eases the harshness of situations. 2ـ اَلرِّفْقُ يُيَسِّرُ الصِّعابَ، ويُسَهِّلُ شَديدَ الأسبابِ.

Leniency is the infusion of goodness and the symbol of success. 3ـ اَلرِّفْقُ لِقاحُ الصَّلاحِ، وعُنْوانُ النَّجاحِ. Be lenient and you shall gain success. 4ـ اُرْفُقْ تُوَفَّقْ. The best thing is gentleness. 5ـ أفْضَلُ شَيْء الرِّفْقُ. The greatest [form of] piety is gentleness. 6ـ أكبَرُ البِرِّ الرِّفْقُ. Leniency is the key to success. 7ـ الرِّفْقُ مِفْتاحُ النَّجاحِ. Leniency is the key to rightness. 8ـ الرِّفْقُ مِفتاحُ الصَّوابِ. Gentleness blunts the edge of opposition.

9ـ الرِّفْقُ يَفُلُّ حَدَّ المُخالَفَةِ. Leniency is the symbol of nobility. 10ـ الرِّفْقُ عُنْوانُ النُّبْلِ. Leniency is the symbol of aptness. 11ـ الرِّفْقُ عُنْوانُ سَداد. With leniency there is auspiciousness. 12ـ اليُمْنُ مَعَ الرِّفْقِ. Leniency leads to peace. 13ـ الرِّفْقُ يُؤَدّي إلَى السِّلْمِ. Gentleness is the brother of a believer.[^1] 14ـ الرِّفْقُ أخُو المُؤْمِنِ. Being lenient with one’s subjects [and dependents] stems from an honourable disposition.

15ـ الرِّفْقُ بِالأتْباعِ مِنْ كَرَمِ الطِّباعِ. When you punish, be lenient. 16ـ إذا عاقَبْتَ فَارْفُقْ. When leniency is unsuitable, then harshness is lenience. 17ـ إذا كانَ الرِّفْقُ خُرْقاً كانَ الخُرْقُ رِفْقاً. Through leniency, magnanimity is completed. 18ـ بِالرِّفْقِ تَتِمُّ المُرُوءَةُ. Through gentleness, goals are achieved. 19ـ بِالرِّفْقِ تُدْرَكُ المَقاصِدُ. Through gentleness, difficulties become easy [to bear]. 20ـ بِالرِّفْقِ تَهُونُ الصِّعابُ.

Through gentleness, companionship lasts longer. 21ـ بِالرِّفْقِ تَدُومُ الصُّحْبَةُ. The pinnacle of knowledge is leniency [and compassion]. 22ـ رَأسُ العِلْمِ الرِّفْقُ. The cornerstone of politics is employing leniency. 23ـ رَأسُ السِّياسَةِ اِسْتِعمالُ الرِّفْقِ. The gentleness of a person and his generosity endear him to his enemies. 24ـ رِفْقُ المَرْءِ وسَخاؤُهُ يُحَبِّبُهُ إلى أعْدائِهِ. Adopt leniency, for indeed it is the key to rightness and the quality of the people of understanding.

25ـ عَلَيكَ بِالرِّفْقِ فَإنَّهُ مِفْتاحُ الصَّوابِ وسَجِيَّةُ اُولِى الألبابِ.
