Shiavault - a Vault of Shia Islamic Books Ghurar Al-Hikam Wa Durar Al-Kalim, Exalted Aphorisms And Pearls Of Speech Lust Lust-الشهوة Lust is one of the two causes of deviation. 1ـ الشَهْوَةُ أحَدُ المُغْوِيَيْنِ. Lustful desires are fatal illnesses, and the best cure for them is acquiring patience against them. 2ـ اَلشَّهَواتُ أعْلالٌ قاتِلاتٌ، وأفْضَلُ دَوائِها اِقْتِناءُ الصَّبْرِ عَنْها. Lustful desires are the snares of Satan. 3ـ اَلشَّهَواتُ مَصائِدُ الشَّيْطانِ.

Overcome [your] lust, [and] your wisdom will be perfected. 4ـ اِغْلَبِ الشَّهْوَةَ، تَكْمُلْ لَكَ الحِكْمَةُ. Turn your back on lustful desires, for indeed they drive you to perform sinful acts and to fall upon evil deeds. 5ـ أُهْجُرُوا الشَّهَواتِ، فَإنَّها تَقُودُكُمْ إلى رُكُوبِ الذُّنُوبِ، والتَّهَجُّمِ عَلَى السَيِّئاتِ. Lustful desires are fatal diseases, and the best cure for them is acquiring patience against them.

6ـ اَلشَّهَواتُ آفاتٌ قاتِلاتٌ، وخَيْرُ دَوائِها اِقْتِناءُ الصَّبْرِ عَنْها. Beware of allowing lustful desires to dominate you, for indeed its immediate result is dispraised and future consequence is detrimental. 7ـ إيّاكُمْ وتَحَكُّمَ الشَّهَواتِ عَلَيْكُمْ، فَإنَّ عاجِلَها ذَميمٌ، وآجِلَها وَخيمٌ. Beware of letting lustful desires overpower you hearts, for indeed its beginning is bondage and its end is destruction.

8ـ إيّاكُمْ وغَلَبَةَ الشَّهَواتِ عَلى قُلُوبِكُمْ، فَإنَّ بِدايَتَها مَلَكَةٌ، ونِهايَتَها هَلَكَةٌ. The beginning of lust is pleasure and its end is harm. 9ـ أوَّلُ الشَّهْوَةِ طَرَبٌ، وآخِرُها عَطَبٌ. Lust entices. 10ـ اَلشَّهْوَةُ تُغْري. Lustful desires are diseases. 11ـ اَلشَّهَواتُ آفاتٌ. Lustful desires are lethal. 12ـ اَلشَّهَواتُ قاتِلاتٌ. Lust is spoliation [of intellect and faith]. 13ـ اَلشَّهْوَةُ حَرَبٌ. Lust is the most harmful of enemies. 14ـ اَلشَّهْوَةُ أضَرُّ الأعْداءِ.

Lustful desires are lethal poisons. 15ـ اَلشَّهَواتُ سُمُومٌ قاتِلاتٌ. Lustful desires enslave the ignorant. 16ـ اَلشَّهَواتُ تَسْتَـرِقُّ الجَهُولَ. Yielding to lust is the worst disease. 17ـ اَلاِنْقيادُ لِلْشَّهْوَةِ أدْوَأُ الدّاءِ. Verily if you are controlled by your lustful desires, they will cause you to leap into frivolity and error. 18ـ إنَّكُمْ إنْ مَلَّكْتُمْ شَهَواتِكُمْ نَزَتْ بِكُمْ إلَى الأَشَرِ والغَوايَةِ. When lust tries to overcome you then defeat it by curtailing excesses.

19ـ إذا غَلَبَتْ عَلَيْكَ الشَّهْوَةُ فَاغْلِبْها بِالاِخْتِصارِ. By controlling [one’s] lust, one becomes free of every flaw. 20ـ بِمِلْكِ الشَّهْوَةِ اَلتَّنَزُّهُ عَنْ كُلِّ عاب.
