Shiavault - a Vault of Shia Islamic Books Ghurar Al-Hikam Wa Durar Al-Kalim, Exalted Aphorisms And Pearls Of Speech Jealousy Jealousy الحسد Jealousy is one of the two torments. 1ـ اَلْحَسَدُ أحَدُ العَذابَيْنِ. Jealousy is the viler of the two depravities. 2ـ اَلْحَسَدُ اَلأَمُ الرَّذِيْلَتَيْنِ. Jealousy is an incurable disease, it does not end except by the destruction of the envier or the death of the envied. 3ـ اَلْحَسَدُ داءٌ عَياءٌ، لايَزُولُ إلاّ بِهَلْكِ الحاسِدِ، أوْ مَوْتِ المَحْسُودِ.

Jealousy eats away good deeds just like fire consumes firewood. 4ـ اَلْحَسَدُ يَأكُلُ الحَسَناتِ كَما تَأكُلُ النّارَ الحَطَبَ. Jealousy is a shameful flaw and a gross deficiency; one who possesses it is not cured except by realizing his hopes about the one whom he envies. 5ـ اَلْحَسَدُ عَيْبٌ فاضِحٌ، وشُحٌّ (شَجىٌّ)فادِحٌ، لايَشْفي صاحِبَهُ إلاّ بُلُوغُ آمالِهِ فيمَنْ يَحْسُدُهُ. Be cautious of jealousy, for it disparages the self. 6ـ إحْذَرُوا الحَسَدَ، فَإنَّهُ يُزْري بِالنَّفْسِ.

Be wary of jealousy for it is the worst quality, the ugliest attribute and the trait of the Devil. 7ـ إيّاكَ والحَسَدَ، فَإنَّهُ شَـرُّ شيمَة، وأقْبَحُ سَجِيَّة، وخَليقَةُ إبْلِيسَ. Jealousy is stressful. 8ـ اَلْحَسَدُ يُضْني. Jealousy is the worst of diseases. 9ـ اَلْحَسَدُ شَـرُّ الأمْراضِ. Jealousy is imprisonment of the soul. 10ـ اَلْحَسَدُ حَبْسُ الرُّوحِ. Jealousy is the principal of [all] flaws. 11ـ اَلْحَسَدُ رَأْسُ العُيُوبِ. Jealousy makes life miserable.

12ـ اَلْحَسَدُ يُنَـكِّدُ العَيْشَ. Jealousy emaciates (and exhausts) the body. 13ـ اَلْحَسَدُ يُنْضِي(يُضْنِي) الجَسَدَ. Jealousy melts away the body. 14ـ اَلْحَسَدُ يُذيبُ الجَسَدَ. Jealousy gives rise to depression. 15ـ اَلْحَسَدُ يُنْشِيُ الْكَمَدَ. Jealousy is the great trap of the Devil. 16ـ اَلْحَسَدُ مِقْنَصَةُ (مَنْقَصَةُ) إبْلِيسَ الكُبْرى. Jealousy is an ailment that cannot be cured. 17ـ اَلْحَسَدُ مَرَضٌ لايُؤْسيى. Jealousy is the habitude of the vile ones and the enemies of fortunes.

18ـ اَلْحَسَدُ دَأْبُ السَّفِلِ، وأعْداءِ الدُّوَلِ. When jealousy between the people rains, corruption grows. 19ـ إذا أمْطَرَ التَّحاسُدُ نَبَتَ التَّفاسُدُ. The fruit of jealousy is wretchedness in this world and the Hereafter. 20ـ ثَمَرَةُ الحَسَدِ شَقاءُ الدُّنيا والآخِرَةِ. Shun jealousy, dishonesty and malice, for indeed these three [characteristics] disgrace the religion and destroy the person [who possesses them].

21ـ دَعِ الحَسَدَ، والكِذْبَ، والحِقْدَ، فَإنَّهُنَ ثَلاثَةٌ تَشينُ الدّينَ، وَتُهْلِكُ الرَّجُلَ.
