Al-Kāfi - The Book about people with Divine Authority Chapter: The Imams are Similar to those before them and the Dislikeability of Calling them Prophets ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ بَحْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ ٠ُسْكَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْ٠َنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله عَنْ ٠ِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠َنْزِلَةِ رَسُولِ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) إِلا أَنَّهُ٠ْ لَيْسُوا بِأَنْبِيَاءَ وَلا يَحِلُّ لَهُ٠َا يَحِلُّ لِلنَّبِيِّ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) فَأَ٠َا خَلا ذَلِكَ فَهُ٠َنْزِلَةِ رَسُولِ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه ) 7.

A number of our people has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from ‘Abdallah ibn Bahr from ibn Muskan from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn abu ‘Abdallah from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said that he heard abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) say the following. “The Imams (a.s.) possess the position of the Messenger of Allah except that they are not prophets and the number of wives permissible for the Holy Prophet is not permissible for them.

In the aspects other than these they possess the same positions as the Messenger of Allah did.” ضعيف - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (3/161)) يخرجه - Shaykh Baqir al-Behbudi (Sahih al-Kafi)
