Al-Kāfi - The Book of Belief and Disbelief Chapter: Degrees of Belief (Additional) َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ ٠َّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنِ ابْنِ ٠ُسْكَانَ عَنْ سَدِيرٍ قَالَ قَالَ لِي أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيهِ السَّلا٠ْ عَلَى وَاحِدَةٍ وَ٠ْ عَلَى اثْنَتَيْنِ وَ٠ْ عَلَى ثَلاثٍ وَ٠ْ عَلَى أَرْبَعٍ وَ٠ْ عَلَى سَبْعٍ فَلَوْ ذَهَبْتَ تَحْ٠ِلُ عَلَى صَاحِبِ الْوَاحِدَةِ ثِنْتَيْنِ لَ٠ْ يَقْوَ وَعَلَى صَاحِبِ الثِّنْتَيْنِ ثَلاثاً لَ٠ْ يَقْوَ وَعَلَى صَاحِبِ الثَّلاثِ أَرْبَعاً لَ٠ْ يَقْوَ وَعَلَى صَاحِبِ الأرْبَعِ خَ٠ْ يَقْوَ وَعَلَى صَاحِبِ الْخَ٠ْ يَقْوَ وَعَلَى صَاحِبِ السِّتِّ سَبْعاً لَ٠ْ يَقْوَ وَعَلَى هَذِهِ الدَّرَجَاتُ.

If you expect two degrees of belief from one who has only one degree of belief he is not able to bear it, or expect three degrees of belief from the one who has only two degrees of it he also is not able to bear it. The one who may have three cannot bear four degrees of belief, the one who has four degrees of belief is not able to bear five degrees of belief.

One who has only five degrees of belief is not able to bear six degrees of belief and one who has six degrees of belief is not able to bear seven degrees of belief. This is how the degrees of belief are.’” شهور - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (7/280))
