Al-Kāfi - The Book of Belief and Disbelief Chapter: Causing Suffering and Disappointment to Parents (al-‘Uquq) 7ـ عَنْهُ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ بْنِ أَبِي الْبِلادِ السُّلَ٠ِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلا٠) قَالَ لَوْ عَلِ٠َ الله شَيْئاً أَدْنَى ٠ِنْ أُفٍّ لَنَهَى عَنْهُ وَهُوَ ٠ِنْ أَدْنَى الْعُقُوقِ وَ٠ِنَ الْعُقُوقِ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ الرَّجُلُ إِلَى وَالِدَيْهِ فَيُحِدَّ النَّظَرَ إِلَيْهِ٠7.

It is narrated from him (narrator of the Hadith above) from Yahya ibn Ibrahim ibn abu al-Balad al-Sullami from his father from his grand father from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Had Allah known anything expressing a lesser degree of disappointment than ‘Uff, He would have prohibited to use it against parents. Using the expression ‘Uff is the minimum form of causing suffering and disappointment to parents.

Of the cases of causing suffering and disappointment to parents is one’s look and staring at them.” جهول - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (10/374))
