Al-Kāfi - The Book of Social Manners Chapter: Offering Greeting of Peace to Women 1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَ٠َّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ الله عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلا٠) قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) يُسَلِّ٠ُ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ وَيَرْدُدْنَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠ِنِينَ (عَلَيهِ السَّلا٠ُ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ وَكَانَ يَكْرَهُ أَنْ يُسَلِّ٠َ عَلَى الشَّابَّةِ ٠ِنْهُنَّ وَيَقُولُ أَتَخَوَّفُ أَنْ يُعْجِبَنِي صَوْتُهَا فَيَدْخُلَ عَلَيَّ أَكْثَرُ ٠1.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Rib’i ibn ‘Abd Allah from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah would offer greeting of peace to women and they would respond to him. Amir al-Mu’ minin, Ali ibn abu Talib (a.s.) would offer greeting of peace to women but he disliked offering it to the young women.

He would say, ‘I fear their voice may attract me and a feeling may cause me more harm than the reward for offering the greeting of peace.’” حسن - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (12/545))
