Al-Kāfi - The Book of Taharat (Cleansing) Chapter: A Well near a Cesspool ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ رِبَاطٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلا٠) قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَنِ الْبَالُوعَةِ تَكُونُ فَوْقَ الْبِئْرِ قَالَ إِذَا كَانَتْ فَوْقَ الْبِئْرِ فَسَبْعَةُ أَذْرُعٍ وَإِذَا كَانَتْ أَسْفَلَ ٠ِنَ الْبِئْرِ فَخَ٠ِنْ كُلِّ نَاحِيَةٍ وَذَلِكَ كَثِيرٌ.

He (the Imam) said, ‘If it is above the well, the distance in between must be seven yards, but if it is below the well, the distance must be five yards from all sides, and that is a large area.” شهور - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (13/30))
