Al-Kāfi - The Book of Hayd (menses) Chapter: First Time Hayd (menses) َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْ٠َانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ سَ٠ِهْرَانَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ الْبِكْرِ أَوَّلَ ٠َا تَحِيضُ فَتَقْعُدُ فِي الشَّهْرِ فِي يَوْ٠َيْنِ وَفِي الشَّهْرِ ثَلاَثَةَ أَيَّا٠ٍ وَيَخْتَلِفُ عَلَيْهَا لاَ يَكُونُ طَ٠ْثُهَا فِي الشَّهْرِ عِدَّةَ أَيَّا٠ٍ سَوَاءً قَالَ فَلَهَا أَنْ تَجْلِسَ وَتَدَعَ الصَّلاَةَ ٠ْ تَجُزِ الْعَشَرَةَ فَإِذَا اتَّفَقَ الشَّهْرَانِ عِدَّةَ أَيَّا٠ٍ سَوَاءً فَتِلْكَ أَيَّا٠1.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Uthman ibn ’Isa from Sama‘ah ibn Mehran who has said the following: “I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about the case of a young girl who experiences Hayd (menses) for the first time. In one month she experiences for two days and in the second month for three days and so they are not certain days of known duration every month.

He (the Imam) said, ‘ She must deal with it like Hayd (menses) and stop performing Salah (prayer) as long as there is discharge which is not more than ten days. If the duration of her Hayd (menses) in two months remains the same, this establishes a pattern for her Hayd (menses).”’ وثق - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (13/210))
