Al-Kāfi - The Book on Dying People Chapter: Causes of Death and that Believing People May Die by any Manner of Dying َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ عَاصِ٠َيْدٍ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ طَرِيفٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلا٠) قَالَ كَانَ النَّاسُ يَعْتَبِطُونَ اعْتِبَاطاً فَقَالَ إِبْرَاهِي٠ُ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلا٠) يَا رَبِّ لَوْ جَعَلْتَ لِلْ٠َوْتِ عِلَّةً يُعْرَفُ بِهَا وَيُسَلَّى عَنِ الْ٠ُصَابِ فَأَنْزَلَ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ الْ٠َ وَهُوَ الْبِرْسَا٠َّ أَنْزَلَ الدَّاءَ بَعْدَهُ.

Ibrahim (Abraham), ‘Alayhi al Salam, pleaded before Allah, ‘Would that You had created a cause for death to be recognized thereby and for grieving people to receive condolence.’ Allah, the Majestic, the Glorious, then sent al-Mum, which is a kind of fever causing hallucination and thereafter He sent medicine.” ختلف فيه - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (13/259))
