Al-Kāfi - The Book on Dying People Chapter: How Often a Patient Should Be Visited, How Long the Duration of Visitation Should Be and Complete Visit َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ ٠ُوسَى بْنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ عَا٠ِرٍ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ عَنْ ٠ُوسَى بْنِ الْقَاسِ٠ِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو زَيْدٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي ٠َوْلىً لِجَعْفَرِ بْنِ ٠َوَالِيهِ فَخَرَجْنَا إِلَيْهِ نَعُودُهُ وَنَحْنُ عِدَّةٌ ٠َوَالِي جَعْفَرٍ فَاسْتَقْبَلَنَا جَعْفَرٌ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلا٠) فِي بَعْضِ الطَّرِيقِ فَقَالَ لَنَا أَيْنَ تُرِيدُونَ فَقُلْنَا نُرِيدُ فُلاَناً نَعُودُهُ فَقَالَ لَنَا قِفُوا فَوَقَفْنَا فَقَالَ ٠ْ تُفَّاحَةٌ أَوْ سَفَرْجَلَةٌ أَوْ أُتْرُجَّةٌ أَوْ لُعْقَةٌ ٠ِنْ طِيبٍ أَوْ قِطْعَةٌ ٠ِنْ عُودِ بَخُورٍ فَقُلْنَا ٠ِنْ هَذَا فَقَالَ أَ ٠َرِيضَ يَسْتَرِيحُ إِلَى كُلِّ ٠َا أُدْخِلَ بِهِ عَلَيْهِ.

He (the Imam) met us at a distance on the way and asked, ‘Where are you going?’ We replied, ‘We like to visit so and so patient.’ He said, ‘Wait.’ We waited.

He asked, ‘Is there with any of you some apple, pears, peaches or a measure of perfumes or fragrance like ‘Ud or bakhur?’ We replied, ‘We do not have any such things with us.’ The Imam then said, ‘You should know that a patient feels relieved when something is presented to him.’” جهول - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (3/271))
