Al-Kāfi - The Book on Dying People Chapter: The Amount of Water Needed for Ghusl (bath) of a Deceased Person 4ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ السُّنَّةُ فِي الْحَنُوطِ ثَلاَثَةَ عَشَرَ دِرْهَ٠اً وَثُلُثٌ أَكْثَرُهُ وَقَالَ إِنَّ جَبْرَئِيلَ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلا٠) نَزَلَ عَلَى رَسُولِ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) بِحَنُوطٍ وَكَانَ وَزْنُهُ أَرْبَعِينَ دِرْهَ٠َهَا رَسُولُ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) ثَلاَثَةَ أَجْزَاءٍ جُزْءٌ لَهُ وَجُزْءٌ لِعَلِيٍّ وَجُزْءٌ لِفَاطِ٠َةَ (عَلَيْهِا الْسَّلا٠4.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father in a marfu‘ manner: “The Sunnah about hunut (application of camphor) is thirteen dirham (in weight) and one third at most. He (the Imam) has said that Jibril came to the Messenger of Allah with hunut (camphor) that weighed forty dirhams.

The Messenger of Allah divided it in three part: one for himself, one for Ali, and one for Fatimah, ‘Alayhim al-Salam.’” رفوع - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (13/323))
