Al-Kāfi - The Book on Dying People Chapter: The Ghusl (bath) Necessary for Touching a Dead Body and Washing or Touching When the Body Is Still Warm or Has Become Cold ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ ٠َحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رِئَابٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلا٠) فِي الرَّجُلِ يَقَعُ طَرَفُ ثَوْبِهِ عَلَى جَسَدِ الْ٠َيِّتِ قَالَ إِنْ كَانَ غُسِّلَ الْ٠َيِّتُ فَلاَ تَغْسِلْ ٠َا أَصَابَ ثَوْبَكَ ٠ِنْهُ وَإِنْ كَانَ لَ٠ْ يُغَسَّلْ فَاغْسِلْ ٠َا أَصَابَ ثَوْبَكَ ٠7.

A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from al-Hassan ibn Mahbub from ibn Ri’ab from Ibrahim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that if a man’s clothes come in contact with a dead body after the deceased is given Ghusl (bath), he is not required to wash them.

If they become polluted because of such contact before the dead body is given Ghusl (bath) he must wash them.’” شهور - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (3/343))
