Al-Kāfi - The Book on Dying People Chapter: The Reward for Washing a Believer for Burial ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ ٠َحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ غَالِبٍ عَنْ سَعْدٍ الإِسْكَافِ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ أَيُّ٠ِناً فَقَالَ إِذَا قَلَّبَهُ الله٠َّ إِنَّ هَذَا بَدَنُ عَبْدِكَ الْ٠ِنِ قَدْ أَخْرَجْتَ رُوحَهُ ٠ِنْهُ وَفَرَّقْتَ بَيْنَهُ٠َا فَعَفْوَكَ عَفْوَكَ غَفَرَ الله لَهُ ذُنُوبَ سَنَةٍ إِلاَّ الْكَبَائِرَ.

He (the Imam) has said, Tf any believer, when washing the dead body of a believer says, “O Allah, this is the body of Your believing servant from which its spirit has come out and is just separated, please grant him forgiveness, and please grant him forgiveness.’” Allah then forgives his one year’s sins except the major ones.” شهور - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (3/346))
