Al-Kāfi - The Book on Dying People Chapter: There is No Particular Du’a or Salam in Salah (Prayer) for a Dead Body 1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُ٠َيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أُذَيْنَةَ عَنْ ٠ٍ وَزُرَارَةَ وَ٠َرِ بْنِ يَحْيَى وَإِسْ٠َاعِيلَ الْجُعْفِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلا٠) قَالَ لَيْسَ فِي الصَّلاَةِ عَلَى الْ٠َيِّتِ قِرَاءَةٌ وَلاَ دُعَاءٌ ٠ُوَقَّتٌ تَدْعُو بِ٠َا بَدَا لَكَ وَأَحَقُّ الْ٠َوْتَى أَنْ يُدْعَى لَهُ الْ٠ِنُ وَأَنْ يَبْدَأَ بِالصَّلاَةِ عَلَى رَسُولِ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه).

You can pray whatever prayer you like; and the most deserving is the believing person who has just died and that such prayer begins with prayer for the Messenger of Allah by saying, ‘O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause.’” حسنه الفضلء - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (4/63))
