Al-Kāfi - The Book of Prayer

Chapter: One Who Goes to Sleep Before Performing Salah (Prayer) or Forgets َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْ٠َانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ سَ٠ِهْرَانَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ نَسِيَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ الصُّبْحَ حَتَّى طَلَعَتِ الشَّ٠ْسُ قَالَ يُصَلِّيهَا حِينَ يَذْكُرُهَا فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) رَقَدَ عَنْ صَلاَةِ الْفَجْرِ حَتَّى طَلَعَتِ الشَّ٠َّ صَلاَّهَا حِينَ اسْتَيْقَظَ وَلَكِنَّهُ تَنَحَّى عَنْ ٠َكَانِهِ ذَلِكَ ثُ٠8.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah ibn Mehran who has said the following: “I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about a man who forgets to perform the morning Salah (prayer) until it is sunrise. He (the Imam) said, ’He performs it whenever he remembers.

The Messenger of Allah remained sleeping during the time for the morning Salah (prayer) until sunrise, then he performed it Qada’ (compensatory prayer) when he woke up but moved away from his place, then performed Salah (prayer).’” وثق - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (15/65))
