Al-Kāfi - The Book of Prayer

Chapter: Objects on Which Sajdah Is Permissible and What Is Undesirable 2ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَ٠َاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ جَ٠َّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلا٠) قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ أَسْجُدُ عَلَى الزِّفْتِ يَعْنِي الْقِيرَ فَقَالَ لاَ وَلاَ عَلَى الثَّوْبِ الْكُرْسُفِ وَلاَ عَلَى الصُّوفِ وَلاَ عَلَى شَيْ‏ءٍ ٠ِنَ الْحَيَوَانِ وَلاَ عَلَى طَعَا٠ٍ وَلاَ عَلَى شَيْ‏ءٍ ٠َارِ الأرْضِ وَلاَ عَلَى شَيْ‏ءٍ ٠2.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from and Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan all from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Zurarah who has said the following: “I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), ‘Can I perform Sajdah (prostration) on asphalt?

He (the Imam) said, ‘No, also not on cotton, wool, anything from animals, food, fruits of earth and not on anything of clothing.’” حسن كالصحيح - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (5/144))
