Al-Kāfi - The Book of Prayer

Chapter: Building a Masjid, Items Taken from It, Invalidating Wudu’ and Sleeping in Masjid and So On 14ـ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ ٠َّدٍ رَفَعَهُ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُ٠َيْرٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلا٠) إِنِّي لأَكْرَهُ الصَّلاَةَ فِي ٠ْ فَقَالَ لاَ تَكْرَهْ فَ٠َسْجِدٍ بُنِيَ إِلاَّ عَلَى قَبْرِ نَبِيٍّ أَوْ وَصِيِّ نَبِيٍّ قُتِلَ فَأَصَابَ تِلْكَ الْبُقْعَةَ رَشَّةٌ ٠ِهِ فَأَحَبَّ الله أَنْ يُذْكَرَ فِيهَا فَأَدِّ فِيهَا الْفَرِيضَةَ وَالنَّوَافِلَ وَاقْضِ فِيهَا ٠14.

Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from in a marfu‘ manner from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from certain persons of his people who has said the following: “I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, ‘I dislike performing Salah (prayer) in their Masjid.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You must not dislike it; every Masjid is built on the grave of a prophet or the executor of the will of a prophet who was murdered and that site received a sprinkle of his blood and Allah loved to be spoken of therein.

So you can perform obligatory Salah (prayer) therein as well as optional Salah (prayer) and what you need to perform as Qada’ (compensatory prayer).’” رفوع - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (15/249))
