Al-Kāfi - The Book of Prayer

Chapter: A Prayer Leader Whose Wudu’ Is Invalid or Is without al-Qiblah (al-Ka‘bah) َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حَدِيدٍ عَنْ جَ٠ِيلٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَحَدَهُ٠) عَنْ رَجُلٍ صَلَّى بِقَوْ٠ٍ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَأَخْبَرَهُ٠ْ يَكُنْ عَلَى وُضُوءٍ قَالَ يُتِ٠ْ فَإِنَّهُ لَيْسَ عَلَى الإِ٠3.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn Hadid from Jamil from Zurarah who has said the following: “I once asked one of the two Imam, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, about a man who leads a people in Salah (prayer) of two Rak‘at and then informs them that he does not have a valid Wudu’.

He (the Imam) said, ‘People must complete their Salah (prayer); there is no responsibility on Imam.’” ضعيف - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (15/267))
