Al-Kāfi - The Book of Prayer

Chapter: One Performing Salah (Prayer) Partially behind an Imam Who then Asks Him to Lead because of Losing his Wudu’ َاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُ٠ُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ عَ٠َّارٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلا٠) عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَأْتِي الْ٠ْ فِي الصَّلاَةِ وَقَدْ سَبَقَهُ الإِ٠ُ بِرَكْعَةٍ أَوْ أَكْثَرَ فَيَعْتَلُّ الإِ٠ُ فَيَأْخُذُ بِيَدِهِ فَيَكُونُ أَدْنَى الْقَوْ٠ِ إِلَيْهِ فَيُقَدِّ٠ُهُ فَقَالَ يُتِ٠ُّ صَلاَةَ الْقَوْ٠َّ يَجْلِسُ حَتَّى إِذَا فَرَغُوا ٠ِنَ التَّشَهُّدِ أَوْ٠ْ بِيَدِهِ عَنِ الْيَ٠َالِ فَكَانَ الَّذِي أَوْ٠ْ بِيَدِهِ التَّسْلِي٠َ وَانْقِضَاءَ صَلاَتِهِ٠َا كَانَ فَاتَهُ أَوْ بَقِيَ عَلَيْهِ.

He (the Imam) said, ‘He completes Salah (prayer) of the people, then sits down until they complete Tashahhud (testimonies of belief), he makes a gesture to his right and lifts and it (gesture) is considered saying Salam (the phrase of offering greeting of peace) and completion of their Salah (prayer) and he completes whatever he is yet to complete.’” جهول كالصحيح - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (15/277))
