Al-Kāfi - The Book of Prayer

Chapter: One Performing Salah (Prayer) Partially behind an Imam Who then Asks Him to Lead because of Losing his Wudu’ ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عُثْ٠َاعَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ صَلَّى ٠ٍ وَهُوَ يَرَى أَنَّهَا الأولَى وَكَانَتِ الْعَصْرَ قَالَ فَلْيَجْعَلْهَا الأولَى وَلْيُصَلِّ الْعَصْرَ.

وَفِي حَدِيثٍ آخَرَ فَإِنْ عَلِ٠ْ فِي صَلاَةِ الْعَصْرِ وَلَ٠ْ يَكُنْ صَلَّى الأولَى فَلاَ يَدْخُلْ ٠12.

A group of our people has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from Fadalah ibn Ayyub from al-Husayn ibn ‘Uthman from Sama‘ah from abu Basir from who has said the following: “I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about a man who performs Salah (prayer) with a people and he thinks it is the first (al-Dhuhr) but it is al-‘Asr.

He (the Imam) said, ‘He considers it the first and perform al-‘Asr.’” In another Hadith it is said, ‘If he knows that it is al-‘Asr and has not performed the one before, he is not to join them.”’ رسل - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (5/280))
