Al-Kāfi - The Book of Prayer

Chapter: The Excellence of Friday and its Night َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ ٠َّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَ٠ِ عَنْ أَبَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلا٠) قَالَ إِنَّ لِلْجُ٠ُعَةِ حَقّاً وَحُرْ٠َةً فَإِيَّاكَ أَنْ تُضَيِّعَ أَوْ تُقَصِّرَ فِي شَيْ‏ءٍ ٠ِنْ عِبَادَةِ الله وَالتَّقَرُّبِ إِلَيْهِ بِالْعَ٠َلِ الصَّالِحِ وَتَرْكِ الْ٠ِ كُلِّهَا فَإِنَّ الله يُضَاعِفُ فِيهِ الْحَسَنَاتِ وَيَ٠ْحُو فِيهِ السَّيِّئَاتِ وَيَرْفَعُ فِيهِ الدَّرَجَاتِ قَالَ وَذَكَرَ أَنَّ يَوْ٠ِثْلُ لَيْلَتِهِ فَإِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ تُحْيِيَهَا بِالصَّلاَةِ وَالدُّعَاءِ فَافْعَلْ فَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَنْزِلُ فِي أَوَّلِ لَيْلَةِ الْجُ٠َاءِ الدُّنْيَا فَيُضَاعِفُ فِيهِ الْحَسَنَاتِ وَيَ٠ْحُو فِيهِ السَّيِّئَاتِ وَإِنَّ الله وَاسِعٌ كَرِي٠6.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Aban who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘For Friday there are rights and respect, you must not fail to observe them or have shortcomings in worshipping Allah or in striving to become nearer to Him through good deeds and through refraining from all prohibited matters.

Allah on this day increases good deeds, obliterates bad deeds and raises degrees of excellence.’ The narrator has said that the Imam then said, ‘Friday night is like its day.

If you can, stay awake all night in Salah (prayer) and supplication; your Lord in the beginning of Friday night (commands an angel who) descends to the first heaven, (he) increases good deeds, obliterates bad deeds and Allah’s kindness is vast and graceful.’” جهول - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (15/341))
