Al-Kāfi - The Book of Prayer

Chapter: Times of Salah (Prayer) on a Journey and Performing Two Salah (prayer) Soon one after the Other َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنِ ابْنِ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ قَالَ كُنْتُ أَنَا وَنَفَرٌ ٠ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا ٠ُتَرَافِقِينَ فِيهِ٠َدِينَةِ فَارْتَحَلْنَا وَنَحْنُ نَشُكُّ فِي الزَّوَالِ فَقَالَ بَعْضُنَا لِبَعْضٍ فَا٠ْشُوا بِنَا قَلِيلاً حَتَّى نَتَيَقَّنَ الزَّوَالَ ثُ٠َّ نُصَلِّيَ فَفَعَلْنَا فَ٠َشَيْنَا إِلاَّ قَلِيلاً حَتَّى عَرَضَ لَنَا قِطَارُ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلا٠) فَقُلْتُ أَتَى الْقِطَارُ فَرَأَيْتُ ٠َاعِيلَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ صَلَّيْتُ٠َرَنَا جَدِّي فَصَلَّيْنَا الظُّهْرَ وَالْعَصْرَ جَ٠َّ ارْتَحَلْنَا فَذَهَبْتُ إِلَى أَصْحَابِي فَأَعْلَ٠4.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from ibn Bukayr from ‘Ubayd ibn Zurarah who has said the following: “Once a few persons of our people and I were in a company, among them was Muyassir, between Makkah and al-Madinah. As we traveled, we were in doubt about the time of Zawal (declining of the sun toward the west at noontime). Certain ones among us said that we must walk for a while until we are certain about Zawal, then perform Salah (prayer).

Thus, we did so and we had walked only a little that the caravan of abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), appeared.

I said, ‘The caravan has come.’ I saw Muhammad ibn Tsma‘il and asked him, ‘Have you performed Salah (prayer) yet?’ He replied, ‘My grandfather instructed us so we performed Salah (prayer) al-Dhuhr and al-‘Asr all together.’ We then left and I went to inform our people about it.’” وثق - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (15/373))
