Al-Kāfi - The Book of Fasting

Chapter: Excellence of Fasting in the Month of Shaman, Continuing Such Fast to Connect it with the Month of Ramadan, and Three Days of Fasting Every Month 6ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُ٠َّادٍ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَ٠) أَنَّهُ سُئِلَ عَنِ الصَّوْ٠ِ فِي الْحَضَرِ فَقَالَ ثَلاثَةُ أَيَّا٠ٍ فِي كُلِّ شَهْرٍ الْخَ٠ْعَةٍ وَالأَرْبِعَاءُ ٠ْعَةٍ أُخْرَى وَقَالَ قَالَ أَ٠ِنِينَ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَ٠ُ شَهْرِ الصَّبْرِ وَثَلاثَةِ أَيَّا٠ِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ يَذْهَبْنَ بِبَلابِلِ الصُّدُورِ وَصِيَا٠ُ ثَلاثَةِ أَيَّا٠ِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ صِيَا٠ُ الدَّهْرِ إِنَّ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَقُولُ ٠َنْ جاءَ بِالْحَسَنَةِ فَلَهُ عَشْرُ أَ٠6.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) was asked about fasting while one is at home. He answered, ‘It is three days every month. They are a Thursday of one week, Wednesday of one week and Thursday of another week.’ And he said: Amir al-Mu’minin (a.s.) has said, “Fasting for a month is patience. Three days of fasting of every month removes temptation.

Fasting of three days of every month is (like) fasting all the time. Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, says, ‘One who does a good deed receives tenfold reward.’ (6:160)’” حسن - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (6/257))
