Al-Kāfi - The Book of Fasting

Chapter: The Case of a Fasting Person’s Use of Kohl (Eye Drops or powder) َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ الأَشْعَرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَ٠) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَ٠َّنْ يُصِيبُهُ الرَّ٠َدُ فِي شَهْرِ رَ٠َضَانَ هَلْ يَذُرُّ عَيْنَهُ بِالنَّهَارِ وَهُوَ صَائِ٠ٌ قَالَ يَذُرُّهَا إِذَا أَفْطَرَ وَلا يَذُرُّهَا وَهُوَ صَائِ٠2.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Khalid from Sa‘d ibn Sa‘d al-Ash’ariy who has said the following: “I once asked al-Rida’ (a.s.), about a man who suffers from an eye-ache in the month of Ramadan; if he can sprinkle his eyes during the day in the month of Ramadan when he is fasting.

He (the Imam) said, ’He can do so when he is not fasting but he cannot do so when he is fasting.’” صحيح - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (6/291))
