Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi âUmayr from Hammad ibn âUthaman from al-Halabiy who has said the following: âThis is concerning my question before abu â Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who with the intention to fast wakes up in the morning, then for a certain reason decides not to fast.
He (the Imam) said, âUntil midday it is his choice to fast or not to fast.â I then asked, âIs he required to make Qadaâ (compensatory fast) for such fast if he discontinues it?â He (the Imam) said, âYes, it is a valid deed that he intended to do and he should complete it.â I then asked, âCan a man who, when the day is up, decide to fast, do so?â He (the Imam) said, âYes, it is permissible for him to do so.ââ Øس٠- Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (MirʾÄt al-Ê¿UqÅ«l fÄ« Sharḥ AkhbÄr Äl al-RasÅ«l (16/314))
