Al-Kāfi - The Book of Fasting

Chapter: The Case of One Who Begins a Journey or Returns from a Journey in the Month of Ramadan 1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُ٠َّادٍ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَ٠) أَنَّهُ سُئِلَ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَخْرُجُ ٠ِنْ بَيْتِهِ يُرِيدُ السَّفَرَ وَهُوَ صَائِ٠ٌ قَالَ فَقَالَ إِنْ خَرَجَ ٠ِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ يَنْتَصِفَ النَّهَارُ فَلْيُفْطِرْ وَلْيَقْضِ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْ٠َ وَإِنْ خَرَجَ بَعْدَ الزَّوَالِ فَلْيُتِ٠1.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who comes out of his house to travel and he is fasting.

He (the Imam) said, ‘If he has come out before midday he is required to stop fasting and complete its Qada’ (compensatory fast) but if he has come out after Zawal (declining of the sun toward the west at noontime), he is required to complete his fast (of that day).”’ حسن - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (16/333))
