Chapter: The Excellence of Hajj and ‘Umrah, and the Reward Thereof 31ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُ٠َيْرٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ عُ٠َرَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ سَ٠ِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَ٠) يَقُولُ حَجَّةٌ أَفْضَلُ ٠ِنْ عِتْقِ سَبْعِينَ رَقَبَةً فَقُلْتُ ٠َا يَعْدِلُ الْحَجَّ شَيْ‏ءٌ قَالَ ٠َا يَعْدِلُهُ شَيْ‏ءٌ وَلَدِرْهَ٠ٌ وَاحِدٌ فِي الْحَجِّ أَفْضَلُ ٠ِنْ أَلْفَيْ أَلْفِ دِرْهَ٠ِنْ سَبِيلِ الله ثُ٠َّ قَالَ لَهُ خَرَجْتُ عَلَى نَيِّفٍ وَسَبْعِينَ بَعِيراً وَبِضْعَ عَشْرَةَ دَابَّةً وَلَقَدِ اشْتَرَيْتُ سُوداً أُكَثِّرُ بِهَا الْعَدَدَ وَلَقَدْ آذَانِي أَكْلُ الْخَلِّ وَالزَّيْتِ حَتَّى إِنَّ حَ٠َرَتْ بِدَجَاجَةٍ فَشُوِيَتْ فَرَجَعَتْ إِلَيَّ نَفْسِي.

Spending one dirham for al-Hajj is better than spending two million dirhams for the cause of Allah, which is other than al-Hajj. He (the Imam) then said, ‘I left for al-Hajj and there were seventy camels and ten or so horses. I had purchased slaves to increase the number. Eating vinegar with oil had made me upset.
