Al-Kāfi - The Book of Haj

Chapter: The Case of One Who Commences (assumes) al-’Ihram Before the Designated Place ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنْ ٠ُثَنًّى عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَ٠) قَالَ الْحَجُّ أَشْهُرٌ ٠َاتٌ شَوَّالٌ وَذُو الْقَعْدَةِ وَذُو الْحِجَّةِ لَيْسَ لأَحَدٍ أَنْ يُحْرِ٠َ بِالْحَجِّ فِي سِوَاهُنَّ وَلَيْسَ لأَحَدٍ أَنْ يُحْرِ٠َ دُونَ الْوَقْتِ الَّذِي وَقَّتَهُ رَسُولُ الله (صلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) فَإِنَّ٠َنْ صَلَّى فِي السَّفَرِ أَرْبَعاً وَتَرَكَ الثِّنْتَيْنِ.

One must not assume the state of Ihram for al-Hajj in other months and one must not assume the state of Ihram before Mawaqit (places for assuming the state of Ihram) designated by the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause.

To do so is like performing four Rak‘ats Salat (prayer) on a journey and ignoring the fact that one’s duty is to perform two Rak‘ats only.’” شهور - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (17/240))
