Chapter: The Case of a Man who Wears a Shirt for Dress for al-’Ihram or Afterwards 2ـ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ ٠َّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ ٠ِّ قَالَ دَخَلَ رَجُلٌ الْ٠َسْجِدَ الْحَرَا٠ٌ فَدَخَلَ فِي الطَّوَافِ وَعَلَيْهِ قَ٠ِيصٌ وَكِسَاءٌ فَأَقْبَلَ النَّاسُ عَلَيْهِ يَشُقُّونَ قَ٠ِيصَهُ وَكَانَ صُلْباً فَرَآهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَ٠ْ يُعَالِجُونَ قَ٠ِيصَهُ يَشُقُّونَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ كَيْفَ صَنَعْتَ فَقَالَ أَحْرَ٠ْتُ هَكَذَا فِي قَ٠ِيصِي وَكِسَائِي فَقَالَ انْزِعْهُ ٠ِنْ رَأْسِكَ لَيْسَ يُنْزَعُ هَذَا ٠ِنْ رِجْلَيْهِ إِنَّ٠َا جَهِلَ فَأَتَاهُ غَيْرُ ذَلِكَ فَسَأَلَهُ فَقَالَ ٠َا تَقُولُ فِي رَجُلٍ أَحْرَ٠ِيصِهِ قَالَ يَنْزِعُهُ ٠2.

Abu Ali al-Ash’ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from Safwan from Khalid ibn Muhammad al-Asamm who has said the following: “A man entered Masjid al-Haram in the state of Ihram and began performing Tawaf with a shirt and a gown on him. People went to him and tore his shirt, but he stood firm. Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saw him when people were tearing his shirt. He (the Imam) asked him about how he has done it.

He said, ‘I assumed the state of Ihram like this in my shirt and gown.’ He (the Imam) told him to remove it from the direction of his head. ‘One like him is not required to remove it from the direction of his legs.

He did not know (the rule).’ Another one came and asked him (the Imam), ‘What do you say about a man who assumes the state of Ihram in his shirt?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘He must remove it from the direction of his head.’” (Fatwa best explains this Hadith) جهول - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (7/299))
