Al-Kāfi - The Book of Haj

Chapter: Expiation for Hunting Wild Animals in the State of al-’ Ihram َّدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنِ ابْنِ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَ٠) فِي قَوْلِ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَوْ عَدْلُ ذلِكَ صِيا٠َةَ الْهَدْيِ طَعَا٠اً فَإِذَا زَادَتِ الأَ٠ْدَادُ عَلَى شَهْرَيْنِ فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ أَكْثَرُ ٠3.

Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Ali ibn Faddal from ibn Bukayr from certain persons of our people who has said the following: “This is about the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘... or equivalent of it fasting.’ (5:95) Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘The offering animal is evaluated with food stuff, then for every mud (a certain measurement) he fasts one day.

If the number of mud (a certain measurement) is above the number of days in two months, more than two months fasting is not obligatory on him.’” وثق - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (17/372))
