Al-Kāfi - The Book of Haj

Chapter: Expiation for Hunting Wild Animals in the State of al-’ Ihram 5ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُ٠ِيلٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَ٠َةً قَالَ عَلَيْهِ بَدَنَةٌ فَإِنْ لَ٠ْ يَجِدْ فَإِطْعَا٠ِسْكِيناً وَقَالَ إِنْ كَانَ قِي٠َةُ الْبَدَنَةِ أَكْثَرَ ٠ْ يَزِدْ عَلَى إِطْعَا٠ِسْكِيناً وَإِنْ كَانَ قِي٠َةُ الْبَدَنَةِ أَقَلَّ ٠ْ يَكُنْ عَلَيْهِ إِلاَّ قِي٠5.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Jamil from certain persons of our people who has said the following: “About a man who in the state of Ihram kills an ostrich, abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘He must pay one badanah; if he cannot afford then he must feed sixty destitute people.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘If the value of badanah is more than feeding sixty destitute people, it is not obligatory to feed more than sixty; if its value is less than the cost of feeding sixty destitute, he only owes the value of badanah.’” رسل كالحسن - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (7/372))
