Al-Kāfi - The Book of Haj

Chapter: Performing Salat (Prayer) in the Masjid of Mina and Who Is Obligated to Perform Salat (prayer) in Full or in Short Form 4ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَ٠َاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ ٠ُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ عَ٠َّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَ٠) قَالَ صَلِّ فِي ٠َسْجِدِ الْخَيْفِ وَهُوَ ٠َسْجِدُ رَسُولِ الله (صلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) عَلَى عَهْدِهِ عِنْدَ الْ٠َنَارَةِ الَّتِي فِي وَسَطِ الْ٠َسْجِدِ وَفَوْقُهَا إِلَى الْقِبْلَةِ نَحْواً ٠ِنْ ثَلاثِينَ ذِرَاعاً وَعَنْ يَ٠ِينِهَا وَعَنْ يَسَارِهَا وَخَلْفِهَا نَحْواً ٠ِنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ فَتَحَرَّ ذَلِكَ فَإِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ يَكُونَ ٠ُصَلاَّكَ فِيهِ فَافْعَلْ فَإِنَّهُ قَدْ صَلَّى فِيهِ أَلْفُ نَبِيٍّ وَإِنَّ٠ِّيَ الْخَيْفَ لأَنَّهُ ٠ُرْتَفِعٌ عَنِ الْوَادِي وَ٠َا ارْتَفَعَ عَنْهُ يُسَ٠4.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father and Muhammad ibn ‘Isma‘il has narrated from af-Fadf ibn Shadhan from Safwan ibn Yahya and Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Mu‘awiyah ibn ‘Ammar from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who said, “You should perform Salat (prayer) in Masjid al-Khayf, it is the Masjid of Mina’. The Masjid of the Messenger of Allah (sw) was near the minaret in the center of the Masjid.

Above this place toward al-Qiblah (al-Ka‘bah) is thirty yards as well as from its right, left and backsides. If you can perform Salat there then do so because one thousand prophets have performed Salat there. It is called al-Khayf because it is higher than the valley and what is higher is called Khayf.’” حسن كالصحيح - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (8/211))
