Al-Kāfi - The Book of Haj

29ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ ٠َسْعَدَةَ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَ٠) قَالَ سُئِلَ أَ٠ِنِينَ (صلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) عَنْ إِسَافٍ وَنَائِلَةَ وَعِبَادَةِ قُرَيْشٍ لَهُ٠ْ كَانَا شَابَّيْنِ صَبِيحَيْنِ وَكَانَ بِأَحَدِهِ٠َا تَأْنِيثٌ وَكَانَا يَطُوفَانِ بِالْبَيْتِ فَصَادَفَا ٠ِنَ الْبَيْتِ خَلْوَةً فَأَرَادَ أَحَدُهُ٠َا صَاحِبَهُ فَفَعَلَ فَ٠َا الله فَقَالَتْ قُرَيْشٌ لَوْ لا أَنَّ الله رَضِيَ أَنْ يُعْبَدَ هَذَانِ ٠29.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Harun ibn Muslim from Mas’adah ibn Sadaqah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that ’Amir al-Mu 5 minin was asked about ‘Isaf and Na’ilah, which Quraysh worshipped. He (the Imam) said, ‘They were two fair looking young persons and one of them had feminine signs. They were performing Tawaf around the House. It happened that there was no one in the House.

One of them acted indecently toward the other and they both changed in a metamorphosis process. Quraysh then said, ‘Had it not been for Allah’s happiness that people worship them along with Him, He would not cause metamorphosis process to change them as such. ‘“ ضعيف - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (18/253))
