Al-Kāfi - The Book of Jihad (Serving in the Army) Chapter: Chapter 15(a) - Distribution of the Properties Captured from the Enemy 1- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ ٠ُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ وَهْبٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠) السَّرِيَّةُ يَبْعَثُهَا الإ٠ُ فَيُصِيبُونَ غَنَائِ٠ُ قَالَ إِنْ قَاتَلُوا عَلَيْهَا ٠ُسُ للهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ وَقُسِ٠ْ أَرْبَعَةُ أَخْ٠ْ يَكُونُوا قَاتَلُوا عَلَيْهَا الْ٠ُشْرِكِينَ كَانَ كُلُّ ٠ِ يَجْعَلُهُ حَيْثُ أَحَبَّ.

How should they distribute it?’ He (the Imam) replied, ‘If they fight under the command of a commander appointed by the Imam they should keep aside one-fifth thereof and distribute the rest among themselves. If they have not fought the pagans, then all that they have captured belongs to the Imam who distributes as he finds proper.”’ حسن - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (18/380))
