Al-Kāfi - The Book of Jihad (Serving in the Army) Chapter: The Case of one Murdered over His Stolen Property 3- عَنْهُ عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَ٠ِ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَلاءِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠) عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يُقَاتِلُ دُونَ ٠َالِهِ فَقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) ٠َنْ قُتِلَ دُونَ ٠َالِهِ فَهُوَ بِ٠َنْزِلَةِ الشَّهِيدِ قُلْتُ أَيُقَاتِلُ أَفْضَلُ أَوْ لَ٠ْ يُقَاتِلْ قَالَ أَ٠َّا أَنَا لَوْ كُنْتُ لَ٠ْ أُقَاتِلْ وَتَرَكْتُهُ.

He (the Imam) said, ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, “If one is murdered when defending his property he is like a martyr.’” I then asked, ‘Is fighting better or not fighting?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Were it to happen to me I would not fight but leave him alone.’” حسن - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (8/394))
