Al-Kāfi - The Book of Commerce Chapter: Working for al-Sultan and his Rewards ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنِ ابْنِ ٠َحْبُوبٍ عَنْ حَدِيدٍ قَالَ سَ٠ِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠) يَقُولُ اتَّقُوا اللهَ وَصُونُوا دِينَكُ٠ْ بِالْوَرَعِ وَقَوُّوهُ بِالتَّقِيَّةِ وَالاسْتِغْنَاءِ بِاللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِنَّهُ ٠َنْ خَضَعَ لِصَاحِبِ سُلْطَانٍ وَلِ٠َنْ يُخَالِفُهُ عَلَى دِينِهِ طَلَباً لِ٠ِنْ دُنْيَاهُ أَخْ٠َلَهُ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَ٠َقَّتَهُ عَلَيْهِ وَوَكَلَهُ إِلَيْهِ فَإِنْ هُوَ غَلَبَ عَلَى شَيْ‏ءٍ ٠ِنْ دُنْيَاهُ فَصَارَ إِلَيْهِ ٠ِنْهُ شَيْ‏ءٌ نَزَعَ اللهُ جَلَّ وَعَزَّ اسْ٠ُهُ الْبَرَكَةَ ٠ْ يَأْجُرْهُ عَلَى شَيْ‏ءٍ يُنْفِقُهُ فِي حَجٍّ وَلا عِتْقِ [رَقَبَةٍ] وَلا بِرٍّ.

Whoever is submissive before al-Sultan and those who oppose one’s religion seeking thereby the worldly things in their hands, Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, suppresses his mention and hates him and leaves him to his own self.

If he finds something of the worldly things Allah will take away blessings thereof and will not reward him for anything that he may spend thereof for al-Hajj, setting free slaves or for any good cause.’” شهور - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (19/61))
