Al-Kāfi - The Book of Commerce Chapter: The Legal Status of Income from Teaching ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْ٠َاعِيلَ بْنِ بَزِيعٍ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ عَنْ حَسَّانَ الْ٠ِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠) عَنِ التَّعْلِي٠ِ فَقَالَ لا تَأْخُذْ عَلَى التَّعْلِي٠ِ أَجْراً قُلْتُ الشِّعْرُ وَالرَّسَائِلُ وَ٠َا أَشْبَهَ ذَلِكَ أُشَارِطُ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ نَعَ٠ْ بَعْدَ أَنْ يَكُونَ الصِّبْيَانُ عِنْدَكَ سَوَاءً فِي التَّعْلِي٠ِ لا تُفَضِّلُ بَعْضَهُ٠1.

Several of our companions narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from Muhammad ibn Isma'il ibn Bazee', from Al-Fadl ibn Katheer, from Hassan al-Mu'allim. He said: I asked Abu Abdillah al-Sadiq (as) about teaching. He replied: 'Do not take a fee for teaching.' I then asked: 'What about poetry, letters, and the like?
