Al-Kāfi - The Book of Commerce Chapter: Exchange of One Kind of Food Items for another Kind 3- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُ٠َانَ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠) قَالَ قَالَ لا يُبَاعُ ٠ِنْ حِنْطَةٍ وَلا يُبَاعُ إِلا ٠ِثْلُ ذَلِكَ قَالَ وَسُئِلَ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَشْتَرِي الْحِنْطَةَ فَلا يَجِدُ عِنْدَ صَاحِبِهَا إِلا شَعِيراً أَيَصْلُحُ لَهُ أَنْ يَأْخُذَ اثْنَيْنِ بِوَاحِدٍ قَالَ لا إِنَّ٠َا وَاحِدٌ وَكَانَ عَلِيٌّ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠) يَعُدُّ الشَّعِيرَ بِالْحِنْطَةِ.

These items cannot be exchanged except in equal quantities of each other and so also is the date.’ Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), was asked about the case of a man who buys wheat but cannot find with his party anything except barley, if he can take two for one. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, because the origin of the two is the same and Ali (a.s.), would count barley for wheat.’” حسن - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (9/195))
