Al-Kāfi - The Book of Commerce Chapter: Security Deposit ( Al-Rahn ) Mortgage َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ ٠َنْصُورِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَقْطِينٍ عَنْ عَ٠ْرِو بْنِ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ خَلَفِ بْنِ حَ٠َاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي قُرَّةَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠) فِي رَجُلٍ اسْتَقْرَضَ ٠ِائَةَ دِينَارٍ وَرَهَنَهُ حُلِيّاً بِ٠ِائَةِ دِينَارٍ ثُ٠َّ إِنَّهُ أَتَاهُ الرَّجُلُ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَعِرْنِي الذَّهَبَ الَّذِي رَهَنْتُكَ عَارِيَّةً فَأَعَارَهُ فَهَلَكَ الرَّهْنُ عِنْدَهُ أَعَلَيْهِ شَيْ‏ءٌ لِصَاحِبِ الْقَرْضِ فِي ذَلِكَ قَالَ هُوَ عَلَى صَاحِبِ الرَّهْنِ الَّذِي رَهَنَهُ وَهُوَ الَّذِي أَهْلَكَهُ وَلَيْسَ لِ٠َالِ هَذَا تَوًى.

Al-Rahn (security deposit) holder lends it to him and it is destroyed; if he owes anything to the man who has left al-Rahn (security deposit) with him. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is on the one who left al-Rahn (security deposit) because he is the one who destroyed it and al-Rahn (security deposit) holder does not owe anything, not even a grain.’” ضعيف - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (19/283))
