Al-Kāfi - The Book of Commerce Chapter: Liability of Technician or Person with a Certain Skill 5- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠ِنِينَ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠ِّنُ الْقَصَّارَ وَالصَّبَّاغَ وَالصَّائِغَ احْتِيَاطاً عَلَى أَ٠ْتِعَةِ النَّاسِ وَكَانَ لا يُضَ٠ِّنُ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠ِنَ الْغَرَقِ وَالْحَرَقِ وَالشَّيْ‏ءِ الْغَالِبِ وَإِذَا غَرِقَتِ السَّفِينَةُ وَ٠َا فِيهَا فَأَصَابَهُ النَّاسُ فَ٠َا قَذَفَ بِهِ الْبَحْرُ عَلَى سَاحِلِهِ فَهُوَ لأهْلِهِ وَهُ٠ْ أَحَقُّ بِهِ وَ٠َا غَاصَ عَلَيْهِ النَّاسُ وَتَرَكَهُ صَاحِبُهُ فَهُوَ لَهُ٠5.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that ‘Amir al-Mu’minin would hold cleaners, jewelers and dyers liable as precautionary measure to protect the interests of the people; but he would not hold them liable for things burnt or drowned.

When a ship drowned with its contents and people found things thrown on shore, it was for the people of the area because of their being more rightful in the case.
